And while we're on the subject, "Christians do not twist or misrepresent the facts so as to mislead others." (The Watchtower, June 15, 2009, page 17), which is absolutely correct- "CHRISTIANS" do not!
Billy - I did come across that article in my search, and while I agree that not all untruths are lies (unless you regard genuine mistakes as lies), it did not occur to me the time - of course, the WT never lies - it just slips in an "untruth" now and again. So we have "old truth", "new truth", "present truth", and now we have "untruth" - what a brilliant euphasism for a lie.

Indeed they are Doc, which is why I want to find this quote. When they talk about their history they do exactly what this article says you shouldn't do. I found this one, "When a Christian phrases things in such a way that he inwardly knows is leading brothers to a wrong conclusion, to believe something that is really not true, not accurate, how do you think God feels?” (Live With Jehovah’s Day in Mind, 2006, pages 114), but the one I have in mind is more judgemental of those doing it.

That's a very useful quote msconcerned, thank you. It's not the one I have in mind though. That one included an example of a man who answers a question from his wife, which is technically accurate, but gives the wrong impression, thus he is lying, without actually saying anythng untrue.

I like to collect admirable quotes from Watchtower publications that I can then use back on JWs to demonstrate their double standards. For example, this appeared in the Awake!, August 22, 1984, page 28;
“The Catholic Church occupies a very significant position in the world and claims to be the way of salvation for hundreds of millions of people. Any organisation that assumes that position should be willing to submit to scrutiny and criticism.”
The is a perfectly reasonable statement to make, and it would be equally reasonable if you replace the words “Catholic Church” with “Watchtower Society” and delete the words “hundreds of”.
Recently I came across an article (I think in a Watchtower) that explained how statements that can be technically correct, if designed to deliberately give a false impression, (i.e. half-truths) are no different to lies. I thought I had safely saved it, but I cannot for the life of me find it now. I seem to remember it was a fairly recent magazine, but searches on all key words in the Watchtower library have failed to find it.
Does this ring a bell with anyone, and if so, can you provide the reference?

We specially request that no money be sent by mail. Altho this is mentioned in every issue quite a number fail to heed it. They thus not only lose the money sent but cause themselves and us trouble and postage writing about their losses. Furthermore they trouble others who properly send Postal Orders, Drafts or Express Orders; for the mail-thief frequently by mistake takes these (which he cannot use and must destroy lest they betray him). Hence the many who do right in this matter are put to trouble even tho they suffer no financial loss. If all would observe the proper rule, the thief would be spared temptation, and he would soon cease to rifle letters addressed to us - finding no money therein. One dear Brother sent a donation in money, which went astray. He wrote subsequently that his thought was - This is the Lord's money and for the Lord's cause and he will protect it. He erred in this, failing to realize that his course was a tempting of Providence. “Thou shaIt not tempt the Lord thy GOD” Nor should we tempt our weak fallen fellow creatures.
So if you put your faith in the Lord to protect his own property, it amounts to tempting him and he will have none of it. Another case where God says to man, heads I win, tails you lose.

i'm wondering if you all could help me with my next video that i want to put up in the next couple of days (though i'm hoping for tonight), i want to come up with a list of the most prominent urban legends surrounding jws and then refute them whatever they may be.. i'm thinking there's the urban legend about the question on jeopardy that said the nwt was the most accurate would be a good one.
that one stems from an online powerpoint presentation named theological jeopardy and a book which was written comparing six different translations of the bible.

I guess Tuesday’s video is long since done and dusted, so this won’t be much use to it, but I heard these true stories about a couple of missionaries in deepest Africa back in the 1970s.
One was walking home across open countryside after sunset. He was stalked by some lions and as they were about to pounce, he heard them, panicked and ran towards some trees. The lions gave chase but the missionary jumped for a branch and was able to pull himself up. He stayed there all night, and at sunrise he was amazed to see he was sitting on a branch over 12 feet from the ground. A second missionary had a similar experience but this time it was daylight. He was approached by two lions coming from opposite directions. As he had nowhere to run, he took out his bible, knelt down and prayed to Jehovah. The two lions continued their approach but stopped about six feet away from him and sat down. The missionary, stopped praying, opened his bible and started reading about Daniel in the lion’s den. At that moment the lions pounced and ate him, demonstrating the truth of the old adage, you should never read between the lions.
